If you're having issues connecting on your Android, Please follow the troubleshooting steps below to help with getting you connected.
Before troubleshooting, make sure that:
You are connected to the internet via Wi-Fi or mobile data network
Your Android OS is 8.x or later
Your device is not rooted
A 3rd party app is not interfering with your Internet settings, such as an antivirus, firewall, etc.
If you are connecting from one of the following countries, you may have issues connecting due to government blocks: China, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Pakistan, Iran, Russia
You also have the current version of the Betternet app, which can be downloaded here
Below are some of the most common troubleshooting steps.
Switch VPN protocol
The first thing you should do when encountering connection issues is to connect with a different VPN protocol.
To connect with a different protocol, follow these steps:
Click the Gear icon in the upper-left corner of the Betternet app.
Under Security, click on VPN Protocol
Select WireGuard
After selecting WireGuard, go back to the main app screen and try to connect again. If WireGuard does not work, try Hydra instead, and then try to connect again.
Try to connect to a different country
The second thing you should try is connecting to a different server.
To connect to a different country in the Betternet app follow these steps:
From the main screen of the Betternet app, click on the Country selection button under the Connect button. By default, it says BEST CONNECTION, but if you've already selected a different country to connect to, it may say something different.
This will open the Server locations list. Select one of the other available servers, such as UNITED KINGDOM
Click on CONNECT
The app will now try to connect to the selected country.
Reinstall the Betternet app
The third thing you should do when encountering connection issues is to reinstall the Betternet app.
To reinstall Betternet, follow these steps:
Close the Betternet app and go back to your app view
Locate the Betternet app
Press and hold on the Betternet app for a second or two until a menu pops up
Select Uninstall
Confirm the uninstallation
Go to the Betternet Play Store page (or click here to open the page directly) and reinstall the app by clicking on Install
After reinstalling the app, log in to the app again and try to connect.
Whether these steps work for you or not, we would love to hear your feedback so that we can improve our app and service.
